Talks Convened between Tamil Nadu & Kerala Officials over Demand for Withdrawal of Cases Registered by Kerala Police Remained Inconclusive.
However, Official Sources said that the Minutes of the Meeting Pertaining to the Demand for Withdrawal of Cases would be taken to the Notice of the Kerala Government by its Officials for Positive Action. It was Reported that Officials & Personnel from Water Resources Organisation (WRO) of Public Works Department (PWD) were Prevented from Entering Parambikulam Dam Site on September 10, 2016. This reportedly Resulted in the PWD Cancelling its Vehicle Service.
The Vehicle was used for Transporting Children of the PWD Staff Residing at Parambikulam to a School in Anamalai in Tamil Nadu & back to the Dam Site. This Resulted in a Road Blockade by PWD Officials & Personnel, which Culminated into a Cane Charge by the Kerala Police. A Case was Registered under Sections 353 (preventing a government servant from discharging duty) and 506 (i) (criminal intimidation) of Indian Penal Code in this regard.
Subsequently, the Police had Issued a Summon 1st to PWD Staff N. Thiyagaraj & Bus Driver Ponnusamy to appear before them, besides Dispatching Summons to 40 Others to Appear before a Magistrate Court in Chittur in Kerala.
This led to Uproar & Flash Protests by the PWD Officials. To Resolve the Issue, Pollachi Sub-Collector Gayathri Krishnan Convened Talks at Pollachi on Tuesday.
It was Attended by Officials from Parambikulam Tiger Reserve, Kerala Police & the PWD & Forest Department of Tamil Nadu.
The Tamil Nadu side Reiterated its Demand for Withdrawal of Cases Registered against the Tamil Nadu PWD Officials & their Personnel. Kerala Officials have Assured to take the Demands of the Tamil Nadu Side to the Notice of the Kerala Government.
